A secret world we can’t see
Hidden in a tree Unfolds, a tale of synergy

It all depends on a wasp so small
It smells the fruit trees call
And flies up to the entryway
Into the fig it finds its way
Loses its wings entering 
Then surrendering 
A life, exchanged for her offspring

It’s true 
Figs are fantastic when tasted 
But there can’t be any magic without the wasp

Hundreds of fig varieties 
Each has its own wasp species
The wasp can find just the tree
Where it needs to be By scent, it has no eyes to see

It lays its eggs and it pollinates
A brand new life awaits
Deep in the fig the larvae grow 
And once they’re large they’ll have to go
Find a mate, and bestow pollinate and flow 
Then fly into the afterglow
